Commission an original artwork
Commissioning an original drawing or painting is a meaningful experience and opportunity to own an exclusive, personal work of fine art. Darren is pleased to be able to share his passion professionally and accepts private and public commissions worldwide.
Reasons for commissioning an artwork are many and varied. They can symbolise a client’s love and appreciation for a particular subject, connection to a person, animal or place, or commemorate a special occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary or personal achievement. Furthermore, original art provides atmosphere and a conversation point in residential and social gatherings, cultural spaces and commercial environments, such as a lobby, waiting room or office.
To express interest in a commission, please get in touch using the contact form below.
Darren enjoys working closely and collaboratively with clients and collectors to bring their vision to life in his unique aesthetic, recognisable style and interpretation.
From traditional animal portraits to specific concepts, compositions and abstractions centred around the natural world, he is happy to receive and consider all commission enquiries.
Subjects and themes that deviate greatly from those at the heart of his work however may not be accepted.
Pet portraits are a frequently sought commission and a beautiful way to celebrate the life of a beloved pet or companion animal.
From the largest canines to smallest invertebrates, Darren’s exquisite portraits capture the soul, energy and individual personality of each and every animal, resulting in a truly special and deeply personal display piece that will last a lifetime.
A portion of proceeds from all commissioned pet portraits benefits a no-kill animal shelter.

More information on photograph requirements can be provided.
A deposit of 30% of the commission price is required to start work. This is to secure the time in Darren’s diary and initial outlay of materials and is non-refundable. The balance is due by, or at the time of completion and paid prior to shipment.
Once the commission order is confirmed, the client will receive an email with an invoice for the deposit from which payment can be made directly by either credit/debit card or PayPal. Direct bank transfer/deposit is possible for clients within Australia. Cheques are not accepted.
Following acceptance of the booking and payment of the deposit, Darren will prepare a rough pencil sketch to confirm pose, composition and placement of elements This will be influenced greatly by the chosen reference photo and/or details discussed in the initial conversation.
The creation of original fine art takes time, just like everything of quality and value.
Completion times will vary depending on the size, detail and complexity of the artwork. Please keep this in mind and advise if the commission is for a special occasion or required by specific date when completing the contact form. While all reasonable efforts will be made, unfortunately not all timeframes are possible, and this will be advised prior to confirming any booking.
The client is kept updated during the creation of the artwork with progress photos, at which point any adjustments can be made within the scope of possibility.
